What is Namakaran?
Namakaran is a common Hindu ritual of naming, which is usually conducted at the 11 th or 12 th day of a newborn. It is among the sixteen Hindu samskaras that soundly transitions the child into the society and spiritual world. In the ritual, the priest recites the Vedic mantras which are powerful and has purification rituals to bring blessings of gods. The name which is mostly chosen according to the star at which the baby is born (Nakshatra) or horoscope (Janma Kundali), is barely whispered in the right ear of the baby. Elders give blessings to the child as a wish of good health, prosperity, wisdom, and long life.
